Chris Poole-Jones Memorial

Powder Coated Stainless Steel
72” h x 42” w x 36” d

Commissioned for the June Key Delta Community Center in Portland, OR.

This Memorial pays tribute to Christine W. Poole-Jones, an incredible community leader who was loved and respected by so many, for her generous heart, her commitment to community, family, friends, and the values she held dear. In a poised yet powerful stance this beautiful Delta Sigma Theta Soror forms with her hands the shape of the Delta triangle. This symbol represents her uncompromising commitment to make a difference for her community. In her chest the Delta symbol takes the shape of a heart, representing her generous spirit of service that she so actively gave to transform her community. She is standing on a triangular base, a variation of the Delta design, with 9 pearls to represent the 9 cardinal virtues and the strong foundation these values create.
Many thanks to the Portland Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the generous support of the Portland Development Commission who made this memorial possible.

Created in memory of Larry G. Looney. Powder coated blue to bring attention to our deep connection to nature, open skies and free flowing rivers.

Roll & Play

Powder Coated Steel
36"h x 75"w x 48"d

Maryhill Museum of Art - Outdoor Sculpture Collection, Gift of the North Star Foundation

Feature Sculpture on New Plaza overlooking the Columbia River Gorge

Roll & Play invites the viewer to feel the freedom we feel when we roll around and play on the floor or in the grass. I created this piece to remind us to enjoy our lives, and make time for play, like we did so naturally as children. I chose yellow because it is a playful color, and reminds one of the color of sunflowers, and the brightest days of life.

Maquette (model) for public sculpture

Estimated Life-size: 6 ft h x 7.6 ft w x 7 ft d
or Monumental: 10 ft h x 12.6 ft w x 11.6 ft d

Celebrating Life represents the dynamic that is present when our community gathers to share, interact and co-create together. People of all ages and backgrounds are joyfully connecting. Forming bridges with their arms, the figures create a symbol of belonging, bridging the age and cultural gaps through community gatherings, culture and engagement. When we join together as a group, there is a shift in the energy, a level of excitement for life which is not usually possible when alone. We empower each other to thrive in our families, our schools, and our communities.
