Humility Rising

Vitreous Enamel (glass) on Hammered and Welded Steel 6.5 x 6.5 x 4.5 inches The design for “Humility Rising” came through me over 2 years ago, while feeling stuck after my surgery and trying to again lift my wings. When I picked it up again a few weeks ago and decided to build it in steel, it became an exploration in humility, my own and that of our species, grappling with climate change and what we have created. The base became a symbol of a hurricane, nature’s powerful response. The humble stature of the body symbolizes our collective human body, with one wing down in humility and one wing reaching for the strength to fly. When drawing into the glass on the surface, the image of many eyes, one on each feather came to me. We are waking up, looking in all directions, really seeing and witnessing it all, listening to nature, opening up to answers on how to best respond.

Folding Into Nature

Vitreous Enamel (glass) on Hammered Steel 8.75 x 10 x 9.5 inches Folding Into Nature is the title piece for my current body of work, exploring how we as humans are coping with the environmental and cultural challenges we are facing. This body of work explores the many ways we find meaningful moments amidst these challenges, even joy, reaching for a calm acceptance of what is. This piece is my way of coming to terms with how we as humans are folding back into nature as our time on earth is limited.
