IS Day PDX 2017 – A Sculptural Success!

Pacific Northwest Sculptors’ (PNWS) second annual celebration International Sculpture Day PDX 2017 – 3D Alchemy: Fusing Intellect, Intuition and Magic into Sculpture, was a “smashing success” per emcee Jennifer Corio, with close to 200 attending. Spanning two days: April 21 & 22, 2017, the event was held at three venues all within one block in Southeast Portland and featured Artist Talks, Exhibition, Studio Tour, Sculpture Demos, Tango Demo and Live Music!

Julian Voss-Andreae opened his sculpture studio to the public where he led a tour and explained how he blends art and high-tech; he also was a featured speaker, along with sculptors Sam Hingston, Chayo Wilson and Bill Leigh.  Guests migrated in a procession with The Love Brigades from the Artist Talks to Voss-Andreae’s Tour and Sculpture Demos by Dave Gonzo and Andy Kennedy, then on to the Exhibit at Roll Up Gallery featuring 50 works by PNWS members, and finishing with a Tango demo by Rachel Lidskog and Dance Party to Live Music by the Aftershock with Nico Wind at Dance with Joy studios.

Hingston mentioned “I thought it was a really fun and engaging event. The three locations gave the evening a lot of variety, and having the group travel together brought a bit of adventure to the whole thing.”

IS Day PDX Chair, Alisa Looney commented that “each of the speakers were mesmerizing and inspiring, the tour and demos created an inviting sense of wonder, the exhibit was stunning and well presented, the tango demo was fluid and gorgeous, and the Live Music sent us all into flight on the dance floor! …. We definitely brought sculpture to the public in a fresh way.”

The celebration would not have been possible without the generous support of many in the community including sponsors Cobalt Designworks, Dance With Joy Studios, Form 3D Foundry, Bill Leigh, Roll Up Photo Studio + Gallery, the International Sculpture Center in Hamilton, N.J. (publishers of Sculpture Magazine) and Julian Voss-Andreae.
