Culture Series: Seaport Guide (Spirit Mask)
title: Culture Series: Seaport Guide (Spirit Mask)
This enamel wall relief is wired and ready to hang on a small wall or nook. The detailed painting invites an intimate moment with the viewer. I love the view of the docked ship and moving water, juxtaposed with the birds eye (map) view of the Columbia River, merging with the Willamette River (in North Portland, Oregon). The red dot points to the exact location of the port.
Vitreous enamel (Kiln-fired glass) on plasma-cut and hammered steel. Enamel Techniques: Granular spray, flat spray, sgraffito and watercolor enamel. Dimensions: 10.25 x 6 x 2 inches
Seaport Guide (Spirit Mask) is intended to provide guidance and safety to working harbors. Made in response to attending a guided tour of Terminal 4 & 6, for the Port of Portland Art and Industry residency and exhibition. This mask was created as an expression of gratitude to all the men and women who make the marine terminals work smoothly each day. We depend on them for goods being imported and exported, and these jobs can be dangerous, so I wanted to send them acknowledgement and protection.
